How do you price a cake?
The real question is "Do you know what your abilities are worth?" To price a cake you must have the mind set that no one can bake a cake quite like you. Therefore, what you charge totally depends on what your think you are worth in reference to your ability to provide a unique cake. However, it is important that you research your area of expertise. Gathering this information allows you to make an informed decision, and set a price that is beneficial to both you and your customer. Some additional tips include:

Check Your Actual Cost Per Cake
Remember you will only use this information as a reference because your cakes are uniquely different and what you charge is based on your time, ingredients, and expertise. However, you should price your cakes according to your area.

Next, calculate your actual cost per cake. This includes all ingredients and packing materials such as cake boards, boxes, and delivery costs. Most people charge 2-3 times the cost of making the cake.

Be open with your customers
Let your customers know what they are paying for.
For example:

"You offer original and customized designs for each and every customer."
"You take the time to find out what the client wants."
"You use your secret family recipe."
"You offer only fresh ingredients."

Homemade is better
The mere fact that you are providing homemade cakes from scratch gives your creations a natural fresh taste, which warrants a higher price.

The above information is presented as a "go-by" to help you develop your own ideas on how to price your cakes. With time and experience, I am sure you will add your own ingredients to a "recipe" that prices your cakes appropriately. Good Luck!
